Julia has led tours for over 25 years, from tropical rainforests to high alpine meadows. Trained in Horticulture at RHS Wisley and the Royal Botanic Gardens Edinburgh, she is now a Horticultural Consultant and Botanical and Garden Tour Guide.

Tour Itinerary

We begin our garden journey with a visit to RHS Garden Wisley, the flagship garden of the Royal Horticultural Society. Set within a beautiful landscape of mature trees and diverse planting, Wisley showcases the very best in horticulture, with inspiring borders, specialist collections and carefully considered garden design throughout. We then continue to our hotel.

Day 1 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

Today we experience one of the highlights of the gardening calendar: the RHS Chelsea Flower Show. Held annually in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea, this celebrated event brings together the finest garden designers, growers and floral artists from across the world.Enjoy time to explore the show gardens, where innovative designs demonstrate the latest ideas in garden creation, as well as the spectacular floral displays, specialist nurseries and gardening exhibits. From new planting trends to rare and unusual specimens, Chelsea offers inspiration for every garden enthusiast.

Later, we continue to our hotel in the West Country.

Day 2 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

This morning, we enjoy an early visit to Sissinghurst Castle Garden, one of England’s most admired gardens. Created by writer Vita Sackville-West and her husband Harold Nicolson from the 1930s onwards, this series of intimate garden rooms combines thoughtful planting, colour and structure around the remains of an Elizabethan manor house.

We continue to Great Dixter, the home of renowned garden writer Christopher Lloyd. With its historic timber-framed house and distinctive planting style, the garden reflects Lloyd’s creativity and continues to inspire gardeners around the world. We enjoy a guided tour, offering insight into this remarkable garden.

Day 3 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

We leave our first hotel and continue west, visiting Wilton House near Salisbury. This impressive Palladian mansion is surrounded by a beautiful landscape featuring tranquil water gardens, rose gardens and historic design influences.

We then travel onwards to our second hotel in Somerset.

Day 4 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

Today we visit The Courts Garden, a delightful English country garden with peaceful water features, colourful herbaceous borders, topiary and an arboretum filled with mature trees and seasonal planting.

Later, we spend time in the elegant city of Bath. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bath is renowned for its Roman heritage and magnificent Georgian architecture, including the Royal Crescent, the Circus and Pulteney Bridge.

Day 5 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

We begin with a visit to Cannington Walled Garden, set within the grounds of a medieval priory. Restored to create a series of distinctive garden areas, it features colourful borders, a potager, winter garden, fernery and glasshouse planting.

Later, we visit the Bishop’s Palace in Wells, where we enjoy a special horticultural tour. Surrounded by 14 acres of gardens, the medieval palace features beautiful water gardens, historic planting and the famous well pools that gave the city its name.

Day 6 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

Our final day begins at Stourhead, one of England’s greatest landscape gardens. Created in the 18th century, its sweeping lake, classical temples, grottoes and carefully designed views create a landscape of timeless beauty.

We continue to Hestercombe, where the partnership between Gertrude Jekyll and Sir Edwin Lutyens created one of the finest examples of early 20th-century garden design. Following a guided tour, we return to London where our tour concludes.

Day 7 RHS Chelsea Flower Show & Classic English Gardens

The Walnut Tree Hotel in Bridgwater is a charming 18th-century coaching inn offering a comfortable and welcoming stay in the heart of Somerset. The hotel combines traditional character with modern facilities and provides 34 individually styled bedrooms and suites. All rooms include en-suite facilities, complimentary Wi-Fi, tea and coffee making facilities, toiletries, a flat-screen Freeview TV, iron and ironing board, trouser press, and a table with chairs suitable for working or dining.
