Oman tours: your questions answered

Because comparatively little of it was studied until relatively lately. The picture is still being assembled, which means the interpretation you hear on tour is closer to current research than it would be at a long-excavated site.

Meaning “Fortunate Arabia”, Arabia Felix was the classical name for southern Arabia, associated with fertile lands and the wealth of the incense trade. Sumhuram, in modern Oman, was an important port in that trading world.

The cooler months, from autumn through to early spring, generally offer the most comfortable conditions for exploring archaeological sites. Much of Oman is extremely hot in summer, although southern Oman has a different climate: the khareef brings mist, rain and cooler temperatures around Salalah.

Sites are open and unshaded, on rough or sandy ground, and the itinerary covers long distances between mountains and coast. Each itinerary carries an activity level of easy, moderate or active so you know what to expect before you book.
