Some of Scotland’s most attractive gardens and artistic treasures await. Dumfries House in Ayrshire, saved with the support of King Charles, shines with superb Adam interiors, a unique Chippendale collection and an outstanding walled garden. At Broughton House, we enjoy EA Hornel’s Japanese-influenced artist’s garden, while Drumlanrig Castle impresses, with its extensive grounds, fine art and Renaissance grandeur.

Colin Crosbie

Studied horticulture at the West of Scotland Agricultural College. He then worked in the Savill and Valley Gardens in Windsor Great Park before being appointed as Head Gardener to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother at Royal Lodge Windsor.

Richard Baines

Curator of Logan Botanic Garden, a specialist garden of the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh. He has participated in Botanical Expeditions worldwide including China, Chile, Turkey, USA and the Canary Islands. He has also led four expeditions to Vietnam resulting in the discovery of 5 new species.

Tour Itinerary

We depart from your local pick-up point and head for the gardens at Drumlanrig Castle, one of the first and most important Renaissance buildings in Scotland.

Today we visit Glenwhan Gardens, spread out over a windy hilltop with marvellous views of Luce Bay and the Mull of Galloway. Since 1979, a very large, interesting and individual garden has been created, filled with a range of plants. This afternoon, we continue to our next destination, the world-famous Logan Botanic Gardens at Port Logan, lying in the Mull of Galloway.

This morning, we visit Broughton House, a fascinating 18th-century house and garden. Next, we spend some more time in Kirkcudbright, before stopping for lunch (not included). Following this, we visit the wonderful plantsman’s nursery of Ellenbank, full of cottage garden perennials such as violas, clematis and penstemons. Our last visit of the day is to the gardens of the Threave Estate.

We check out of our hotel and visit Dumfries House, near Cumnock in Ayrshire. We make the most of those interiors on our grand tour of the house, followed by tea and shortbread. Afterwards, we visit the Queen Elizabeth Walled Garden, which is one of the best examples of its kind in Scotland and in many ways the flagship of the restoration project. Following our visit, we return to our original departure points.
