Scotland’s rugged north-west coast is at its most majestic in early spring and autumn, with Atlantic waves crashing dramatically against the shore. Based in Kinlochbervie, with panoramic views over lochs and hills, we explore coastal gems such as the white sands of Oldshoremore and Smoo Cave at Durness. Evenings are spent enjoying fine food, good company and a welcoming fireside dram in our highland hotel.

Tour Itinerary

We depart from our designated pick-up points and travel north, pausing en route for refreshments, before continuing into the remote north-west Highlands. Our destination is Kinlochbervie, where we settle into our hotel overlooking the fishing harbour and the open Atlantic coast.

Meals: Dinner

Accommodation: The Kinlochbervie Hotel

After breakfast, we explore Assynt, a landscape of moorland, lochans and dramatic coastline shaped by ancient geology. We visit Achmelvich Bay and the harbour village of Lochinver, with views inland to the distinctive peak of Suilven rising above the surrounding wilderness.

Accommodation: The Kinlochbervie Hotel

We walk at Oldshoremore Beach, a sweeping arc of white sand backed by machair and dunes rich in wildflowers. We continue to Durness, visiting Balnakeil graveyard overlooking the sea, before stopping at Cocoa Mountain for hot chocolate and chocolates. We then visit Smoo Cave, with its vast sea entrance and waterfall, before continuing via Loch Eriboll to Tongue.

We begin our return journey through Laxford Bridge, Loch More, Loch Shin and Lairg, where sweeping Highland scenery reflects centuries of change. We continue through Bonar Bridge and Tain, travelling south through the Highlands before returning to our original pick-up points.

Overlooking the fishing harbour of Kinlochbervie and Loch Clash to the Minch, with panoramic views over lochs and hills to the open sea, this family-run hotel is the perfect base from which to explore and enjoy this fascinating area. All rooms are en-suite with television, Wi-Fi, complimentary toiletries, hairdryer and tea/coffee making facilities. Please note that this hotel does not have a lift.
